If you love being near water, Michigan offers over 3,200 miles of scenic Great Lakes shoreline, 11,000 inland lakes and 36,000 miles of rivers and steams. Guarding the shoreline there are 155 historic lighthouses and along the rivers and streams of the Michigan's Upper Peninsula you will find over 100 water falls. Bordering the Great Lakes you can also visit over 75,000 acres of unique sand dunes and endless beaches.
Twenty percent of the State is public land with 6.6 million acres of State or National Forests. Michigan has an excellent park system with 97 State and 3 National Parks. There are also 100s of local parks and nature preserves offering unlimited camping, hiking and biking opportunities.
